What's For Dinner?

Since getting back from our two week trip (more on that in a later post) dinners have been less then stellar.  We've been very busy to say the least and Mike hasn't actually been home for dinner so I haven't really made much of a dinner.  One night Anna Elise and Calvin decided to take things into their own hands!  I stepped out the back door to talk to Mike on the phone and when I stepped back in they had made a salad.  I  decided to let them make whatever else they wanted and do dinner on their own.  (I made my own dinner  later).  They don't know how to make very many things - so they decided on toast with peanut butter and  jam.  The toaster is one thing they are allowed to use.  They had a great time and although toast doesn't really 'go' with salad, it was a well rounded meal!

They used the newspaper bag as a cutting board to cut tomatoes (from our garden) and a carrot with a dinner knife.

They said they put lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, lemon juice, salad dressing, and pretzels in there.

Maybe I need to teach them how to make a couple of things this summer...

Happy Independence Day!

We celebrated Independence Day on July 3rd with s'mores and firecrackers.  We couldn't wait for it to be dark.  After dinner we used the grill to roast marshmallows and made s'mores.  The kids were a mess!  We then did the firecrackers.  The kids were SO excited to light them - but scared to death when they were finally lit!  They wanted to do it all again tonight!

 YUM!

Anyone want a kiss?

We had the kids at the little picnic table and once Mike lit the first firecracker the three older kids took off for the trees, yelling and crying.  Lilah was fascinated and stayed put.

The grand finale!

Girls and Their Purses!

Madeline loves purses!
When she wasn't looking....
When Madeline figured out where her purses went it lead to this...

 and then this.
Mommy intervened (because we all know who would've won!) so that we were back to this!

Side Notes:  Yes, those are Madelines panties hanging out of her leotard, classy I know.  Yes, we went out in public with her looking like that (she wore her cowGIRL boots too, quite the outfit).
Also, the fight reminds me of Nancy and Janet (my youngest sisters), Janet was older and bigger but Nancy usually won!
